EACOM Timber Corporation Board approves USNR to rebuild Timmins Mill and announces completion of Elk Lake upgrades

Montréal, Québec and Vancouver, British Columbia – EACOM Timber Corporation (ETR: TSX-V) (“EACOM”, or the “Company”) is pleased to announce that the Board has approved entering into an agreement with USNRKockums Cancar Inc.,(“USNR”) to rebuild the Timmins Mill.  The total cost of the project is estimated at $25 million, a substantial portion of which is being funded from proceeds of insurance related to a fire. As reported in January of this year, the mill located in Timmins Ontario was destroyed by fire.  To date the Company has received $23,700,000 of insurance proceeds, $13,700,000 related to business interruption and $10,000,000 for damage or destruction of assets.

Stora Enso to build world-class EUR 1.6 billion consumer board and pulp mill in China

Stora Enso plans to build plantation-based integrated board and pulp mills at Beihai city in Guangxi, southern China. The mill site will initially include a 450 000 tonnes per year state-of-the-art paperboard machine and pulp capacity of 900 000 tonnes per year, including necessary energy plant and auxiliary facilities. In a unique set-up, the board and pulp mills will be self-sufficiently integrated with wood supply from 120 000 hectares of self-managed eucalyptus plantations. The ultimate target is to expand the paperboard capacity to 900 000 tonnes at a later stage. The operations will be managed by an equity joint-venture company established by Stora Enso (85%) and the Guangxi Forestry Group (15%), a state-owned company under the Guangxi provincial government. The joint venture will serve the fast-growing market for liquid packaging board and other premium consumer board grades.

Cascades Renews its Normal Course Issuer Bid

Cascades Inc. (TSX: CAS) announces that the Toronto Stock Exchange accepted its notice of intention to begin a normal course issuer bid in respect of its Common Shares. Purchases pursuant to the normal course issuer bid will commence on March 15, 2012 and will not continue beyond March 14, 2013. The Common Shares purchased shall be cancelled.

Ilim Group trains personnel for a new paper machine in Koryazhma

Ilim Group trains personnel to operate a new paper machine in Koryazhma, Archangelsk Oblast (Big Koryazhma investment project). A group of workers of the Koryazhma Mill will be trained in major pulp and paper producers, Svetogorsk Mill in the Leningrad Oblast and Kwidzen pulp plant in Poland, which are affiliated companies of International Paper.

Metso to supply pulp line for production of chemical cellulose for Sappi’s Ngodwana mill in South Africa

Metso will supply a new fiberline for chemical cellulose for Sappi's Ngodwana mill in South Africa. Start-up is scheduled for the first half of 2013. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Metso's delivery will include the design and supply of the main equipment for the new fiberline, from cooking to bleaching. The batch cooking plant is to be designed according to the prehydrolysis process and TwinRoll wash presses will be used in all washing positions.

International Paper Completes Acquisition of Majority Stake in Andhra Pradesh Paper Mills

International Paper today announced that it has completed the acquisition of a 75 percent stake in Andhra Pradesh Paper Mills.

International Paper purchased 53.5 percent of the APPM shares from Mr. L.N. Bangur and related family members and affiliates for approximately US$226 million in cash. These sellers have also entered into a covenant not to compete, for which they received a cash payment of US$57 million. In addition, International Paper acquired an additional 21.5 percent of APPM shares in a public tender offer completed on October 8, 2011, for approximately US$105 million in cash. Paul Brown, president, IP India, will become executive chairman of the APPM Board of Directors, effective today.

Stora Enso and SRV plan in co-operation to build a world-class Wood City

Stora Enso plans to undertake a unique wooden construction project in Finland called Wood City in collaboration with the construction company SRV. A proposal that a site in the Jätkäsaari district of Helsinki be reserved for Stora Enso Oyj and SRV Yhtiöt Oyj was submitted today to the Real Estate Board of the City of Helsinki. The aim is to create a world-class project in which engineering skills can be taught in a practical way and to develop wood architecture. The extraordinary city to be built of wood includes office, hotel and commercial buildings. The first buildings are expected to be completed in 2013.

Metso signs roll service agreement with Holmen Paper

Metso has signed a roll service agreement with Holmen Paper for their Hallsta Paper Mill in Sweden. The value of the agreement will not be disclosed.

With this three-year agreement, which became effective as of September 1, 2011, Metso will be responsible for all mechanical roll services at the Hallsta Paper Mill. Roll grinding and part of mechanical roll maintenance will be carried out at Metso's workshops in Borlänge and Karlstad, Sweden. A Metso maintenance engineer will be based at the Hallsta mill to serve as a link between Metso and the mill. Metso's workforce will also include two maintenance technicians.
